The 2009 Clash at the Border tournament started out with a very exciting match against the Oregon City Pioneers. After battling for most of the match to a 0-0 tie, Oregon City chipped in the game winner with less than five minutes remaining. The Eclipse lost the heartbreaker, but was hoping for a rematch later in the tournament.
The second match against Norpoint FC ended much more favorably for the Eclipse. A 2-0 victory left them in a good position entering their final pool match against cross town rivals FC Salmon Creek Nemesis. An exciting match that saw both teams have opportunities to score ended in a 0-0 tie. The tie was good enough to send the Nemesis home, and the Eclipse on to a rematch with Oregon City.
The rematch did not end well for the home team. In another very exciting match, the Eclipse fell behind 0-1, despite several opportunities by both teams. In the second half, Oregon City managed one more goal to take the championship 0-2.
Considering the number of new players on the Eclipse team and the relatively few practices prior to the tournament, the girls played well and represented their club admirably. WSA managed to take first place in the GU14 Gold (Courage) and second place in the GU14 Silver (Eclipse). A strong showing from this age group, and we could not have been prouder.
Congratulations Eclipse!!!
